Meet Abbigail | The Colorful Herbalist

Welcome to The Colorful Herbalist. I’m a mama of three in SW Michigan, and this is where I share my journey into herbalism. I share what I’m learning, what I’m using at home, and how plants have become part of our everyday life.

My curiosity about plants started a little over ten years ago. Like many mothers, I began taking ingredients seriously when I brought little ones into the world. I started leaning on herbal remedies for simple ailments and gradually embraced a low-tox lifestyle that felt safe and manageable.

I’m practicing as a family herbalist, with hopes to grow into a community herbalist, and eventually expand to a business that directly serves my community. Right now, I’m studying, building my materia medica, and growing my home apothecary. Some posts include affiliate links to tools and herbs I personally use, which help support my education and future goals, like sharing bulk herbs and blends at local farmers markets.

Alongside herbalism, I have a background as a birth doula and years of experience learning and living pregnancy, birth, and children. I’ve had a home birth and used herbs throughout my pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I’ve completed courses in herbs for birth workers and fertility and am continuing my studies through Commonwealth, with plans for future certifications through Herbal Academy.

My focus is women’s health, with a close second on children and families. This space is for beginners and seasoned herbalists alike. It’s a place to learn, reflect, and feel inspired. I’m excited to share my journey and see where this path unfolds!

I’m Abbi!

The Colorful Herbalist is my journal of learning herbalism while raising three kids at home. I’m a homeschooling mama and a first-generation herbalist, slowly bringing plant wisdom back into our daily rhythm. Somewhere along the way my ancestors dropped the ball, so here I am picking it back up.

This space is my personal materia medica mixed with real-life reflections, plus a few affiliate links to things I genuinely use and love.
